Earth Day Carnival @ CM's House

NEW DELHI: A grand carnival organized at chief minister Sheila Dikshit's residence marked the culmination of the Earth Week 2013. The event saw 5,000 children from 400 schools come together to celebrate the theme of re-use, recycle and reduce.

The programme, organized by Delhi's environment department. also saw the release of a poster on 'The common butterflies of Delhi' by WWF, a book on the 'Asola Wildlife Sanctuary' by the Bombay Natural History Society and a book on 'Flora & Fauna at 3, Motilal Nehru Place' prepared by the environment department.

A nature trail, first made functional in 2006, was also upgraded and re-launched. The trail now boasts of a watch tower, tree and shrub signages, badges and a new illustrated booklet.


Each student calculated their own 'Earthy Day Quotient' and signed a pledge to do their bit for Mother Earth.

Speaking on the occasion, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that the nature trail has been instilling a spirit of scientific enquiry in the several visitors, enhancing their skill of observation and most importantly it is making them understand matters related to a green environment.

"The trail enables them to learn about different trees, birds, insects, mammals and their relationships with each other in nature. The carnival was an effort to bring awareness on conservation of the nature amongst children," she said.



She also  asked children to care more for nature and work towards a better future.  

It was a colourful event  and amid a picnic-like atmosphere. Studens explore  the green trail at the chief minister's residence had a wide variety of exotic flora and fauna and a host of trees like those of 'imli', 'neem' and 'babul'.

The green park is also the home to a large number of bats besides various species of birds.The natural trail was decorated with eco-friendly material and was divided into various parts for activities like story-telling session, making of animal masks and film screening, poster making, animal bingo and fun games

The venue had art installations made of recycled materials such as colour fully painted discarded bottles, wood waste and tubes. The CM also released a poster on the common butterflies of Delhi.

The trail for long has been serving as an effective mode of outdoor education where canopy green, interpretation program are in place to explain about the green environments s of Delhi in general and about the environs of the premises in particular. 

Earth Day Celebrations : A Report

We at Kulachi try to use innovative activities to build up a concrete foundation for
our students so that they grow up to become responsible citizens. To achieve this
purpose Earth Day was organized by Vasundhara-the eco club our school during
morning assembly.

School Principal Mrs P.Datta

Mrs.P.Datta Principal of the school delivered introductory address in which she
apprised the gathering about the various green initiatives under taken by the
club. She also pointed that it is the children who are the true builders of a better
tomorrow and by making a conscious efforts to train them and inculcate in them
the correct values, we can ensure that our future is in right hands.

Akul Bansal

Akul Bansal of Class XII , Technical Advisor of eco club spoke about the importance
of earth day, school’s efforts to save the environment and constructive steps to
be taken make our Mother earth a sacred place to live.

Pragya Virmani

Pragya Virmani of Class X recited a self composed poem ’Dharti Ro rahi hai’ to
convey the plight of mother Earth and our role in conserving it. A street play
about waste management and the role we can play to keep our cities clean and
pollution free was enacted. A group song was presented stressing on the need
to take a pledge to save our environment. In the end balloons were released
carrying the message ‘Go Green before Green Goes’.

Earth Hour Celebrations

For our wish to lift the tallest tower we will soon step on every little flower. For our
thirst for iron oil, we will dig up every soil.
And for eternal light we derive to havens we will plung our future generation into
darkness. But earth hour has born out of a hope that our such desired and actions
would change.

It began, in 2007, Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million people and businesses switched off
their lights for an hour.

From there on that hour took the notion of an Earth Hour. It gradually became a
tradition and now more than 157 countries, involving hundreds of millions of people
have come forward with an aim to raise awareness and inspire action on climate change
when earth hour was observed on 23rd March this year.
As a result lights at Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, Gateway of India and households of many common man remained switched off.
Besides this, Kremlin in Moscow’s red square, the Harbor Bridge in Sydney, the Eiffel
tower in Paris and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco were among the many well
known structures that went dark for an hour at 8:30 p.m.

Iconic figures like Amitabh Bachan or the great football star, Liouel Messi have urged
people to go beyond one hour to save planet Earth.

Their efforts have reaped results in form of reduced carbon emission and an uprise of
consciousness in the general attitude.

A Canadian utility also found that the energy save in many cities during last year earth
hour would be enough the completely power then of for that hour.

Vasundhara- the Eco Club of our school has also called attention to the fight.

Every year it insists students to switch their light for a precious and so does it continues
it tradition and celebrate it again today.
A special announcement was made in the assembly to emphasize the significance of Earth hour and request students to switch of their lights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
The same message was forwarded to parents during the Parent Teacher Meeting session . 

EARTH HOUR 2013

  
Students of class 12 started   a signature campaign on      march 23rd 2013 to  celebrate earth hour.
     

  


At the parents teacher meeting also, parents as  well as teachers actively participated and pledged to turn the lights off from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. 

Induction Ceremony 2012 - 2013

On 21st November, 2012 ‘Vasundhara’- the eco-club of Kulachi Hansraj Model School organized the induction ceremony for the session 2012-2013. Dr. B.C. Sabat, Sr. Scientific Officer, Department of Environment, Govt. of NCT, Delhi was the Chief Guest for the occasion and Ms. Conceicao Praun, Documenting Observer on Environment from Brazil was the Guest of Honor.  Delegates from Nepal also graced the function.

The program began with lighting of the lamp of knowledge and was followed by ‘Prakriti Vandana’ - a chorus song, inspiring people to respect the nature and make efforts to conserve the environment.

Headmistress Mrs Kavita Kaul 

Then Mrs. Kavita Kaul, Headmistress and Environment Management Representative of the school delivered the introductory address in which she encouraged the students to work towards the betterment of environment. She also discussed school’s various ‘Green initiatives’.

This was followed by Power Point Presentation by Vidhi & Akul of Class XI about the projects undertaken by the club in the year 2011-2012 and future plans for year to come.

Jal hi jeevan hai !

A ‘Nukkad Natak’ on ‘Jal Hi Jeevan Hai’ based on conservation of water was presented by members of eco-club.

Members were, then, decorated with the badges who took a pledge for preserving the environment and doing their best for conserving it. Mrs. P. Dutta, Principal of the school addressed the gathering highlighting the efforts made by our Green Brigade towards sustainable development and motivated the members for their future endeavors.  The Chief Guest, Dr. B.C. Sabat addressed the students and suggested some simple ways through which one can significantly contribute towards preserving the environment.
